Being Away From Loved Ones During the Holidays
Spending the holidays away from your loved ones sucks, but there is always a silver lining if you look for it.
First came our engagement (on Black Friday), then came deployment (the Monday after), and then came the Foreign Service (while Will was in Afghanistan and we learned if we switched from DOD to DOS we could deploy as a family). š
Being away from your loved ones, especially during the holidays, is so unbelievably hard (I say unbelievably because itās hard to even comprehend until youāre forced to do it) so weāre thinking about those of you going through that right now.
But the silver lining was that time apart solidified for Will and I what we wanted much faster: working abroad + being together permanently. ā¤ļø
Now that weāve landed abroad and are still away from our loved ones for the holidays, we are grateful for friends and family who make it feel like weāre still next door. And for new friends in Athens who let me throw together festive cocktails and cooked us amazing food for Friendsgiving. š¦š
